I see you.
I'm retired. Now what?
*
What if there is more to this life?
*
Why didn't anyone tell me how difficult perimenopause would be?
*
Now that my kids are gone, who am I?
*
What if this isn't the love of my life?
*
What is my purpose?

We are no strangers to the ebbs and flows, the swells and dips, of this unpredictable journey called life.
We cannot control the storms.
But..
We can learn to surf.
We can learn to read the maps.
We can chart our own course.
We can seek shelter from the storm.
We can navigate our way home.
Activating your inner lighthouse takes curiosity, courage, and tenacity. It can also require calling in a co-pilot. If you are ready to delve beneath the surface to identify your values and purpose that will provide a steady anchor, let’s talk.
What storm are you facing?

How we navigate your journey…
-

Feel and be felt.
We long to be seen, heard, and felt. We long to be understood and feel validated in our perspectives. When we are suffering, it can feel like we are all alone. I invite you to share as much as you need, as much as feels safe, and I will hold a space for you to express yourself without judgment or expectation.
-

See the patterns.
How we do one thing is often how we do most things. How are you showing up time and time again? How are you influenced by your wounds, your narratives, your perspectives? Which of these has become such a well-worn groove that you have forgotten to notice it is there? We work to name these patterns so that you can choose your path forward.
-

Consider the bigger picture.
Not only are we not alone in our struggles, but they often exist and persist in the context of the world around us - our family of origins, our communities, and our cultural structures. I help to shed light on the social, political, and environmental factors and power dynamics that influence our shared experience of suffering.
-

Set your sights on target.
Once we understand the intersectional contexts of the storms you are contending with, we have information with which you can discern: what do I want to change and what do I want to (or what can I) accept? I help you to determine what matters most to you and help you envision a road map of your goals that are rooted in your values.
-

Plant seeds. Nourish growth.
With your goals in plain sight, the actions required to make the change you seek become clearer. We may explore somatic techniques to regulate your nervous system and bolster your resistance to the inevitable ups and downs. We may focus on skill-building tactics to cutivate self-awareness, practice self-compassion, communicate needs, resolve conflict, or set boundaries. We may engage tailored exercises for you to continue to explore and reinforce these skills in between sessions.
-

Rewrite your story.
Long ago, we were handed a manuscript. The lead authors were often our family of origin, deeply influenced by the circumstances in which they were raised. The subsequent editors of our stories may have included a complex tapestry of our immediate communities, our spiritual practices, our politics, our genders, our sexualities, our ethnicities, our cultures, our abilities, our size, our intergenerational inheritance, and more and more. We work together to determine which of these stories continue to be relevant to you and which can be archived so that, as Brené Brown suggests, you can “write your own daring ending.”
My approach.
My approach to counselling is an inclusive, empowering, and embodied integration of therapeutic skills and insights to ignite individuals and couples to:
uncover what matters most
clarify and communicate your emotional needs
develop body-based awareness and practices to self-regulate
navigate moments of uncertainty, conflict, and grief
discern what you want to accept and what you want to change
take committed action to live according to your values and your purpose
I embrace such theories and perspectives described as feminist, existential, person-centred, trauma-informed, social justice oriented, culturally responsive, gender-affirming, and queer- and trans-positive.
